PVD Coating Stainless Steels

As a leading supplier of PVD-coated stainless steel, we provide a variety of options for customers. Our stainless steel products undergo Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD), a process that creates a metal vapor, typically using titanium, chromium, and aluminum. This vapor is deposited as a thin, highly adherent coating of pure metal or alloy on electrically conductive materials. The process takes place in a vacuum chamber using a cathodic arc source.

The PVD coating compounds include elements such as carbides, nitrides, borides, and silicide. By incorporating different gases during deposition, a wide range of colors can be achieved.

Why Choose PVD Coating?

PVD coating is an excellent method for enhancing thin film plating elements. This vacuum deposition technique applies a film that is 0.1-0.3 microns thick. PVD coatings outperform traditional electroplated coatings by offering greater corrosion resistance and superior hardness. They do not discolor or tarnish and are more resistant to UV radiation. Additionally, PVD coatings are more environmentally friendly than traditional processes like electroplating or painting.

Why Choose Our PVD Coating?

Our PVD-coated stainless steel products utilize innovative techniques to create thicker, more durable coatings than those offered by other methods. While general coating methods apply a film of 0.1-0.2 microns thick, our process results in a thicker coating that enhances wear, scratch, and corrosion resistance. This makes our products more durable than those produced through traditional methods like electroplating or other PVD processes. Our advanced PVD technique also achieves a smooth finish with excellent scratch resistance compared to other PVD processes.

Sample Thickness Comments
C < 100nm Very thin
J < 150nm Thin with rough surface
K < 250nm Acceptable thickness with fine surface

PVD can be coated on all kinds of stainless steel finish, but usually apply to finer finish such as Super Mirror (No.8), Bead Blasted, Hairline, Starlight, Linen….. it’s widely used for architectural and decorative applications, such as wall panels, coping and trim, also artistic objects.
