Hairline Finish & No.4 – Brushed Stainless Steel Sheet Finishes

Hairline and No.4, our stainless steel product line includes two types of brushed finishes, each with distinct characteristics and processing methods.

Hairline Finish

The Hairline finish features long, continuous lines that resemble the texture of human hair. This effect is achieved through a two-step process: first, the stainless steel is polished with a 150–180 grit belt or wheel, then softened using an 80–120 grit greaseless compound or a medium non-woven abrasive belt or pad. The result is a subtle, linear texture with a refined, elegant appearance. Due to its higher processing requirements, the Hairline finish typically comes at a higher cost than No.4. It is ideal for architectural applications, kitchen appliances, and automotive detailing where visual appeal is important.

No.4 Finish

The No.4 finish—also known as brushed or satin finish—is characterized by short, uniform polishing lines running along the length of the sheet or coil. This finish is produced by passing the stainless steel through a special roller under high pressure. It offers a smooth, semi-gloss appearance that is both attractive and durable. The No.4 finish is widely used in kitchen appliances, commercial interiors, and industrial settings where corrosion resistance and aesthetics are both required.

Among brushed finishes, the 304 stainless steel sheet #4 finish is the most common—frequently seen on kitchen backsplashes and appliances. It comes with a protective PVC film on one side to prevent scratching during fabrication or installation. Our 304 #4 finish meets the criteria of both #3 and #4 finishes.
