China's Net Stainless Steel Exports Increase in June-Teda Metal

In June, China’s General Administration of Customs released statistics on the import and export of stainless steel and key raw materials. Notably, net exports of stainless steel increased, despite a decrease in both imports and exports on a month-to-month basis. Imports of scrap stainless steel also saw a decline.

Import Statistics

June Imports:
- Total stainless steel imports were 131,300 tonnes, down by 43,100 tonnes (24.72%) compared to May.
- Year-on-year, this represents an increase of 13,200 tonnes (11.16%).
- Imports from Indonesia were 108,100 tonnes, a decrease of 39,900 tonnes (26.96%) from May, but an increase of 16,800 tonnes (18.4%) compared to June last year.
January to June Imports:
- Total imports reached 1.1078 millions de tonnes, par 265,000 tonnes (31.44%) year-on-year.
- Imports from Indonesia were 956,100 tonnes, an increase of 313,400 tonnes (48.76%).

Export Statistics

June Exports:
- Stainless steel exports stood at 452,800 tonnes, a reduction of 4,900 tonnes (1.06%) from May.
- This marks an increase of 109,500 tonnes (31.89%) from June last year.
January to June Exports:
- Total exports amounted to 2.3648 millions de tonnes, par 325,900 tonnes (15.99%) from the same period last year.

Net Export Figures

June Net Exports:
- Net exports reached 321,600 tonnes, an increase of 38,400 tonnes (13.56%) from May.
- This represents a year-on-year increase of 96,400 tonnes (42.80%).
January to June Net Exports:
- Total net exports were 1.257 millions de tonnes, an increase of 60,900 tonnes (5.09%) from the same period last year.

Scrap Stainless Steel Imports

June Imports:
- Scrap stainless steel imports were 6,730 tonnes, a decline of 3,300 tonnes (33.01%) from May.
- This is a decrease of 11,300 tonnes (62.61%) from June last year.
January to June Imports:
- Total imports of scrap stainless steel were 54,900 tonnes, down by 129,300 tonnes (70.20%) year-on-year.

En résumé, while both imports and exports of stainless steel decreased in June, net exports increased, indicating a positive trend in China’s stainless steel trade balance.
