Jenis 316L baja tahan karat, with a maximum carbon content of 0.03%, closely resembles Type 316 but offers significantly lower carbon levels. This low carbon content provides excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion, especially after stress relieving or welding processes. Although Type 316L can become sensitized when exposed to temperatures between 800°F and 1650°F, it is the preferred choice over Type 316 for applications requiring enhanced corrosion resistance without annealing, particularly in the welding of thicker sections. Selain itu, Type 316L exhibits good abrasion resistance, making it ideal for demanding industrial environments.

Weldability and Machinability of Grade 316 Baja Tahan Karat
Nilai 316 boasts outstanding weldability, accommodating all standard welding techniques except oxyacetylene. While post-weld annealing is typically unnecessary to restore corrosion resistance, proper post-weld clean-up is recommended, especially for heavy gauge fabrication.
Machinability of grade 316 lebih rendah dibandingkan kebanyakan baja karbon. Namun, standard austenitic grades like 316 can be readily machined with slower speeds, umpan berat, rigid and sharp tools, and the use of cutting fluids. There is also an ‘improved machinability’ versi kelas 316 available.
