EU eröffnet Antidumpingverfahren gegen HRCs
EU Opens Anti-Dumping Case Against HRCs from Four Countries
EU Commission’s Investigation
The European Commission has initiated anti-dumping investigations against imports of hot-rolled flat products (HRCs) of iron, non-alloy, or other alloy steel from Egypt, Indien, Japan, and Vietnam. This move follows a request from the European steel producers’ association, EUROFER.
Focus on Vietnam
Vietnam appears to be a primary focus of the EU’s anti-dumping investigations. In recent cases involving flat-rolled stainless steel, Vietnam was prominently targeted. The Commission and EUROFER have reportedly used different calculation methods to determine significant dumping margins for Vietnam.
Indonesia’s Ban on New Coal-Fired Power Plants
The Indonesian government plans to reduce CO2 emissions in nickel production by banning new coal-fired power plants. Future nickel processors will be required to use sustainable and renewable energy sources.
Carbon Capture Technologies in Indonesia and Europe
Indonesia aims to shut down existing coal-fired power plants by 2050, significantly reducing CO2 emissions with carbon capture technologies. This approach aligns with European efforts, such as Germany’s recent approval of CO2 storage initiatives.
EU Market Protection Measures
The European Commission’s measures against Indonesia’s stainless steel industry reflect a broader strategy to counter the perceived shortcomings of the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). These actions are seen as a substitute for the evolving restrictions under CBAM, Ziel ist der Schutz der EU-Märkte.
